Ucluelet (pronounced “you-clue-let”) began to grow in the 1870s as a fur trading outpost. Fishing in Ucluelet quickly became the main industry as fisherman flocked to Ucluelet’s salmon and halibut fishing grounds. To this day, fishing is a mainstay in Ucluelet.
Today, Ucluelet is a cozy yet vibrant town. The population swells in the summer as fishermen, surfers, nature lovers and tourists flock to its pristine wilderness. From Ucluelet, visitors are just a short hop away from Pacific Rim National Park, Vancouver Island’s famous beaches, exciting fishing trips and spectacular wildlife tours.
